  • Japan-Korea atmosphere videos

Posted by simon c on 2009 March 13日 Friday

The atmosphere at the Japan-Korea I went to see (Japan won 14-2 in 7 innings on the mercy rule, the first time either country’s done it to each other… of course, the Koreans came back 2 days later to shut down Japan 1-0 in its usual nail-biting fashion) was absolutely electric, probably the best sporting event atmosphere that I’ve been in.

Here are some videos from that day (7 Mar 2009, Tokyo round of 2009 WBC).

Taiwanese fans doing the Atlanta Braves tomohawk chop-like cheer against China in the day game.

Ichiro’s at bats, crazy camera flashes in his first plate appearance, bunt single in his second, and crowd going crazy after his 3rd hit of the evening.

    More videos after this break.

You can hear various NPB fight songs for each player here.

Pride of Saitama Seibu Lions and Team Japan’s #2 hitter Hiroyuki Nakajima.

Yokohama BayStars slugger Shuichi Murata, who hit 2 homers in Tokyo, but will likely be useless with his upper cut swing in San Diego and LA which are both pitchers parks.

Tampa Bay Ray Akinori Iwamura’s big foul, you can hear his old Yakult Swallows cheer song.

Current Tokyo Yakult Swallow and probably the best hitter in Japan Norichika Aoki at bat.

Great reception by the crowd after Team Japan’s big 5 run 2nd inning.

The giant stadium wide wave that went around the dome twice, and Korean fans were a good sport taking part in the wave despite this being near the end of the mercy ruled game.

    1. As an Australia-based Mariners fan, I found your blog on google and read a few of your other Mariners posts.
I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
