China Dragon?

It’s almost certain that the San Jose Sharks have pulled out of their venture in China with the China Sharks, the only Chinese entry in the Asia Legue. First, in a recent IIHF article, it was announced that China has hired Belarussian Andrei Kovalev to coach both the national team and the Chinese Asia League team (doesn’t say Sharks).

China hired former Belarusian national player Andrei Kovalev as its new head coach. He signed a contract through April 2010.

The 43-year-old has plenty of international experience as a player. Kovalev played in eight World Championships and two Olympics with Belarus. He also won U20 gold with the Soviets. He played for Dynamo Minsk and Dynamo Moscow in the Russian and Soviet league before a two-year stint in North America in the AHL and other minor leagues, and 13 years in Germany. He ended his playing career in 2007 with Yunost Minsk.

After retiring, he worked with Yunost before becoming the assistant coach of HK Vitebsk.

Kovalev will be assisted by Chinese coaches and he will also be the head coach of the Chinese team in the Asian League. The club is located in a new 8,000-seat arena in Shanghai and it’s the strongest club team in the country.

Then in the Blades-Bucks preseason games over the weekend, apparently people were given pamphlets for the upcoming Asia League season with a team named “China Dragon”.

Removal of Sharks personnel (especially coach) from the Chinese team, and the addition of Kovalev definitely indicates a change in direction away from the Sharks, but with the China team’s opening game quickly approaching on 24 September, they’ll have to get their act together in a hurry. And it looks like yet another year where top level Chinese hockey is changing directions with no clear long term plan.

Blades – Bucks preseason results

The new AL team Tohoku Free Blades faced off against the bolstered Nikko Ice Bucks over the weekend for two preseason games. These two games were the Blades first official games (their games up to now had been against understrengthed squads, non-AL teams or not full 3×20 games).

The word is that Steve Munn and Jon Smyth were solid for the Blades, Bin Ishioka scored both goals in game 1, Michio Hashimoto kept the team in the game despite being vastly outshot in the first game, and the team was less tense in the second game and played a more overall solid game despite the untelling scoreline.

Goalies in game 1 were starters and former Buck Michio Hashimoto for the Blades and national team goalie Naoya Kikuchi for the Bucks, backup goalies played in game 2 for both teams.

On another note, national team defenceman and former Seibu Prince Rabbit Ryuichi Kawai and his younger brother and first Japanese player to appear in the Memorial Cup Takuma Kawai are in a small town near Lethbridge, Alberta at staying at Kiyoshi Ryan Fujita’s house and training. Not sure what they’re aim is but maybe they’re looking for some tryouts in the North American minor leagues.

チャイナ・シャークス？

シャークス行きだったはずの元西武の石岡敏が結局東北フリーブレイズと契約しました。

そしてシャークスの公式ＨＰでもアジアリーグの公式ＨＰでも全く音沙汰が無い。２ちゃんではサンノゼ・シャークスとの提携が終わっていて、今シーズンはアジアリーグ不参加との噂も…真相はいかに？

でもＩＩＨＦのニュース記事では、中国代表とチャイナ・シャークスの新ヘッドコーチは、国際経験豊富なベラルーシ人のAndrei Kovalev 氏に決定したそうだとか。てか、ベラルーシ人を新ヘッドとして採用してる時点で、もうなんかサンノゼとは離れていってる感じもする。

Free Blades roster set!

The new entry into the Asia League for the upcoming 2009-10 season, the Tohoku Free Blades, have finally signed enough players to form a complete roster. The new players should significantly improve the team and hopefully not make them a yearlong doormat in their expansion season (since the China Sharks don’t have Wade Flaherty anymore, there’s hope).

アメリカ代表のジャージ

カナダに続きアメリカ代表の新ユニフォームも発表されてみたいです。これはこれでレトロな感じで良いんじゃないでしょうか。

高橋一馬がハバロフスクに

どういう伝手では知らないか、昨シーズンまでＥＣＨＬにいた高橋一馬選手が、今ハバロフスクのＫＨＬアムールの下部チームの練習に参加しています！さすが常に良く考えてる高橋選手、行動力が凄いですね。

という事で、彼のブログからいくつか抜擢：

以前、アジアリーグにも加盟していましたハバロフスクの”ゴールデンアムール”ですが、現在はオーナーが変わり、KHLというリーグへ参戦しています。そこのファームチームへの練習参加のためにこちらに来ています。さすがにKHLに所属するトップチームへの参加は厳しかったです。

さて、こちらでの生活サイクルは
9:15~10:30　氷上
10:50~11:50　陸トレ
17:00~18:30　氷上
という感じです。

日本でもかなりバタバタした生活をしていましたが、こちらではやれることが限られているので練習に忙しいもののホッケーに集中して生活することができています。

まだまだ、数日しか体感していないロシアホッケーだし、1チームしか知りませんが、簡単な北米との違いの印象としては、

アメリカ・カナダ＝『点数を入れるために、勝つために練習をする、常にサバイバル』
ロシア＝『アイスホッケーがうまくなるために練習をする、アイスホッケーを通して生活・物事の考え方を教育』

ロシア語の『バーニョ』はサウナ!!
リンクの片隅にサウナ室があり、みんなキツキツに入りながら、文字通り裸の付き合い。
サウナに入って一週間の疲れを労わりました。

サウナ入らない人には分からないと思うんですが、サウナでは頭って結構熱くなって大変なんですよ。
その防止のために、なんとここではあのロシア製の帽子が登場!!
こんな熱い中でこの防寒帽子なんて、はじめギャグかと思っていると何人もかぶりながら入ってきて、しまいには自分もかぶるはめに。

こんな熱い中でこの暑苦しい防止かよ、しかも裸にこの帽子って!!

と思いながらかぶったら、意外に快適。しかも、
お前もロシア人の仲間入り!!
みたいな雰囲気になり、大うけ!!
ちょっと距離感が縮まったかな??
裸にロシア帽子で今日のスキンシップは妙な光景だったでしょう。

ついでに、サウナでロシア語講座開催されましたが、のぼせてほとんど頭に入ってなかったです。
ロシア語は本当難しいです。
はっきり言ってまったくしゃべれないし、聞き取れませんからね。
大変ですよ。

さて、ロシア語がさっぱりちんぷんかんぷんな私ですが、ここでは日本語がほぼ完璧な、日本語通訳を仕事としているワロージャさんという方のおうちにホームスティさせていただき、生活しています。
まさに、スーパーひとし君なのです。
ですので、練習のメニューは少し早めに行ってコーチの聞き、生活面でも言葉のストレスがほぼないくらいにサポートしてもらい生活しています。食事やロシアの文化の話などもたくさん情報もらっています。

欲を言えば、氷上でも通訳してもらえれば完璧ですが、そこまで甘えられないです。

選手では、数人英語を話せる選手もいるので、英語を聞くと安心してそちらに頼ってしまいがちになりますが、自分自身でも、覚えられるだけロシア語を理解して生活できるようにして行かないと・・・・・。

なんか、凄い充実してるみたいですね。常にチャレンジ精神旺盛の高橋選手には頭が下がります。今季のチーム探しが順調に行っている事を祈っています。もしかして今年はロシアリーグ（ＫＨＬは無理だろうけど）？

High1 2009-10

High1 has announced their new additions to the team for the 2009-10 season. The team has kept one import in Alex Kim (15G+21A=36P, 13th in the league) but has made a wholesale change on the rest of their import lineup.

Returning to the team after a season in Europe is Tim Smith, he rocked the league with his brother Bud for 2 seasons from 2006-08 (63GP 106P). Joining Tim as the new imports are veteran centre Trevor Gallant and young defenceman Jeremy Van Hoof.

The team is also undergoing a major uphaul with many veterans leaving the team and 5 Korean rookies entering the fray. Also joining the club are stranded Seibu Prince Rabbits defenceman Yuya Yamada (25GP 3A) and rookie forward Hiroki Ueno (24GP 16+14=30 at Waseda University) who had signed on to play for Seibu but had the misfortune of the team folding before he ever wore their sweater.

It’ll be intersting to see how this new, younger version of High1 will fare in the upcoming season, though with top dog Seibu gone, the team should see its fortunes improve from the 5th place finish (13-4-19) and first round elimination from the playoffs it suffered this season.

Bolt 9.58!!

Usain Bolt demolishes the 100m world record that he set exactly a year ago at the Beijing Olympics by sprinting an unthinkable 9.58 in the 100m finals at the World Athletics Championship Berlin 2009. How fast was this final where 7 out of 8 sprinters clocked in at 10.00 or faster? Tyson Gay now holds the world record amongst all non-Bolt sprinters at 9.71.

ウサイン・ボルトがまたまたやりました！今度はベルリン世界陸上の１００ｍ決勝を9.58秒で世界新！奇しくも去年北京五輪で世界を驚愕させた日から丁度一年後です。すげー、凄すぎる。どんだけ速いんだよ、この決勝？８人中７人が10.00秒以下。ゲイはボルト以外では人類最速の9.71秒です。

ドラクエ９攻略

本編ではあっさりボス倒せちゃうし、ストーリーも一本道でダンジョンは仕掛け無し。駄作かと思われたドラクエ９、ところがどっこいクリア後の世界は広くて、やり込み要素が宝の地図、クエスト、練金、旧作のボス倒しと多く、しかも発売から１年間はアイテムやクエストがオンライン配信される。

という事で本編ではあまり使わなかったけど、クリア後の世界では役に立ってくれてる充実してる攻略サイト、フィールド上で拾えるアイテム付の世界地図、そしてとても重宝してる宝の地図サイトです。

バンクーバー五輪でのカナダ代表ユニ

ＩＯＣの方針で、スポーツ連盟のロゴがユニフォームに使用できなくなりました（北京２００８から）。そのお陰で、何十年も使い続かれている代表的なこのホッケー・カナダのロゴがバンクーバー五輪では使えなくなりました。

そこで代替ユニフォームが用意されまして、最近正式発表前にメディアにリークされました。こんな感じです。

全体的にレトロ調でいい味出してます、これはかっこいいでしょう。ファースト・ネイションズ（先住民）のデザインをあしらったロゴもなかなか粋です。

他国の代表ユニも気になりますね、フィンランドとかロシアとかロゴがかっこいいし。

多分しばらく最後になるであろう、シーズン真っ只中のオリンピック、今から楽しみです。
